Bill and his wife Sandy were wonderful former members before moving to Arizona a few years ago. Bill's talk explores the familial, cultural and political connections among prominent and influential Jewish men and women. How did their Jewishness impact their careers, decisions and actions? Did they behave as Jews first, or as Americans first?
Following the program and "Oneg", we will observe Selichot, a time of spiritual preparation on the Saturday night preceding Rosh Ha'Shanah.

When we asked our own Rabbi Goldstein's brother to return to Sha'arey Shalom three years ago, illness prevented his program. Now we are delighted to welcome him back again. David is Rabbi Emeritus of Touro Synagogue in New Orleans, a founding faculty member of the Tulane University Jewish Studies program, and an Adjunct Professor at Tulane. David specializes in Spanish Jewry. His topic: "Wine, Women and Death: The Drama of the Golden Age of Jewish Life in Moslem Spain".

Rabbi Goldstein's nephew, Ari, leads Temple Beth Shalom in Annapolis. He and his wife, Hanna, are wonderfully engaging rabbis. Ari shares his uncles' passion for Israel, but he has developed a special love for archeology. You will absolutely find Ari's presentation to be a great experience in learning.
