Temple Sha'arey Shalom 5th Graders & the Torah Factory
|
The 5th grade Religious School class at Temple Sha'arey Shalom in Springfield recently participated in The Torah Factory program. The students learned about the extraordinarily complex process of creating a Torah scroll, the most precious article in Jewish life. They viewed actual samples that illustrate the process--starting with the raw hide--through tanning and sanding. The children mixed ingredients to make ink and write their Hebrew name with a goose quill in the special script used by a "sofer" (Torah scribe). The Torah Factory program is sponsored by The Living Legacy, who visit the Temple's school several times a year to present dynamic and engaging presentations that involve children in Jewish learning. |
